Intel has hired Alex Katouzian from Qualcomm to lead its newly combined Client Computing and Physical AI Group. The appointment signals Intel's push to expand beyond traditional PCs into emerging areas like robotics and autonomous AI systems. Katouzian will report directly to CEO Lip-Bu Tan and joins in May.

At Qualcomm, Katouzian most recently served as executive vice president and group general manager of mobile, compute, and extended reality. Tan called him the right leader to reimagine client computing beyond the traditional PC and capitalize on growth in physical AI systems. His technical expertise and operational track record were cited as key reasons for the hire.

Pushkar Ranade simultaneously transitioned from interim to permanent chief technology officer. He will advance Intel's technology strategy and drive development in quantum computing, neuromorphic computing, photonics, and novel materials. Ranade will continue serving as chief of staff to the CEO, ensuring alignment between technology strategy and business priorities.

These appointments come as Intel works to strengthen its core product business and compete more aggressively in AI-driven markets.
