Intel has appointed Dr. Craig H. Barratt as independent board chair, effective after the May 13, 2026 annual meeting. Barratt succeeds Frank D. Yeary, who is retiring after serving as director since 2009 and chair since 2023. The leadership transition comes as Intel undergoes a major corporate transformation under CEO Lip-Bu Tan.

Yeary led the board through a critical period, including recruiting Tan as CEO and supporting efforts to strengthen Intel's financial foundation and technology roadmap. Under his leadership, Intel appointed four new independent directors since 2024 to align the board with strategic priorities in technology leadership and operational excellence. The board has focused on adding directors with semiconductor expertise and backgrounds matching Intel's future challenges.

Barratt brings over three decades of semiconductor industry experience from companies including Qualcomm, Intel, and Google. His career includes leading Atheros Communications through IPO and acquisition by Qualcomm, serving as president of Qualcomm Atheros, and heading Intel's ethernet and networking businesses after the Barefoot Networks acquisition. He currently serves on the boards of Intuitive Surgical and Astera Labs.

Tan praised Barratt's deep semiconductor expertise and operational leadership, noting his experience will be instrumental as Intel focuses on disciplined execution, product leadership, and foundry progress. The board transition reflects Intel's commitment to supporting rigorous execution and scaling U.S.-anchored R&D and manufacturing capabilities.
