Intel has recruited Eric Demers, a seasoned GPU architect who spent nearly 14 years at Qualcomm, most recently as senior vice president of engineering. Demers announced his move to Intel last week, confirming he will start work immediately. His new role is expected to involve leading GPU engineering with a focus on AI, though full job details remain undisclosed.

Demers brings deep industry experience, having previously served as a corporate VP and CTO at AMD's graphics division before his Qualcomm tenure. His final project at Qualcomm was reportedly the Snapdragon X2 Series for Windows PCs. This hire positions Intel's new AI Group to better compete with enterprise rivals, particularly NVIDIA, in the data center accelerator market.

Intel recently unveiled its "Crescent Island" data center GPU and has the next-gen "Jaguar Shores" accelerator slated for design completion by mid-2026. Demers' expertise in GPU architecture could be critical for Intel's ambitions to challenge NVIDIA's dominance in AI hardware. The industry will be watching how his experience in mobile and PC GPU design translates to Intel's broader AI strategy.
