Intel Arc A770 Gets New Life with XeSS 3 and MFG Support

Intel's latest Arc 32.0.101.8509 WHQL driver package has breathed new life into the company's graphics cards, with XeSS 3 and multi-frame generation (MFG) support now available across current and past-generation hardware. German tech site PC Games Hardware tested the feature on both the newer Arc B580 and the 2022-era Arc A770 16GB, running seven games at QHD resolution with XeSS Quality settings.

In their testing, the Arc A770 16GB showed impressive performance gains, particularly with XeLL low latency enabled and MFG in three and four-times modes. Despite launching in late 2022, the ASRock Arc A770 Phantom OC delivered performance comparable to newer hardware, earning what PCGH called "something of a second spring." The card's 16GB of memory eliminated bottleneck concerns, while the B580 scaled even better thanks to improved hardware.

However, MFG isn't a universal solution. Battlefield 6 revealed visual discrepancies that made PCGH prefer native frames or competing technologies like FSR 4 and DLSS 4.5. While the Arc A770's usability has improved dramatically overnight, the feature remains limited to titles supporting XeSS, tempering its impact despite the significant performance boost.
