Intel today unveiled a €5 billion ($5.7 billion) capital investment to expand its Leixlip campus in Ireland, the next phase of the site’s capacity growth. The funding will upgrade existing fabs, install leading‑edge equipment and expand the automated track system to create a high‑velocity production environment for Intel Xeon 6 and next‑gen Xeon processors built on the Intel 3 node. The project, launched earlier this year, will create high‑tech jobs and engage specialised tradespeople, reinforcing Europe’s semiconductor supply chain and supporting the EU’s tech‑sovereignty goals. Naga Chandrasekaran, Intel’s EVP and GM of Intel Foundry, said the investment “maximises capacity at Leixlip and increases what we can deliver to Foundry customers.”

The expansion builds on Intel’s more than €30 billion invested in Ireland since 1989. The Leixlip site now employs 4,900 staff and is a cornerstone of Ireland’s tech hub status. Irish leaders welcomed the move: Taoiseach Micheál Martin called it a “powerful vote of confidence,” while IDA Ireland CEO Michael Lohan highlighted the skilled workforce and stable business environment that make Ireland a strategic location for advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
