HWMonitor v1.65 Restores RTX 50 Hotspot Temps

CPUID's HWMonitor version 1.65 has reinstated the hotspot temperature reading for NVIDIA's RTX 50 series "Blackwell" GPUs. Previously, NVIDIA restricted access to this sensor data, even though it was present on the die. This made it impossible for utilities like HWMonitor and GPU-Z to provide this crucial information without NVIDIA's internal tool, MODS.

Despite NVIDIA's restrictions, HWMonitor 1.65 reportedly bypasses these limitations, allowing for normal hotspot readings. Extreme overclocker "Madness" tested the update on a water-cooled RTX 5090, reporting a hotspot of 68°C under the water block, with a 17°C delta from the standard GPU temperature. While not ideal, this data offers overclockers more insight.

This development is significant as it may explain thermal throttling issues. A previous report indicated a 107°C hotspot on an RTX 5070 Ti, far exceeding the 68°C registered by public tools, highlighting potential discrepancies that could impact GPU performance.
