HPE has unveiled the HPE Cray Supercomputing GX5000, featuring 6th Gen AMD EPYC processors. This new supercomputer builds upon previous HPE architectures that achieved exascale speeds and are prominent on the world's fastest supercomputer lists. The GX5000 is designed for complex scientific and engineering challenges, particularly those involving AI and quantum computing.

The system offers high-density performance, boasting 40% more AMD EPYC 9996 cores per rack than competing offerings. It also enhances operational efficiency with a 25% smaller floor space and improved direct-liquid cooling capabilities, allowing for warm facility water up to 40C. HPE Cray Supercomputing GX5000 systems will power leadership-class supercomputers, integrating CPUs, accelerators, storage, networking, and software.

Early adopters include Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), which is deploying the GX5000 for its 'Discovery' exascale machine and a dedicated AI system called 'Lux.' The High-Performance Computing Center of the University of Stuttgart (HLRS) is also integrating a GX5000 system, named 'Herder,' expected to be seven times more powerful than their current supercomputer. HPE is also collaborating with AMD on the AMD Helios AI rack scale system, designed for trillion-parameter AI models.
