GIGABYTE has launched the X870 AORUS Infinity motherboard targeting competitive overclockers as part of its 40th Anniversary showcase. Despite using the ATX form factor, the board is designed for test benches rather than cases, with sideways-oriented connectors and a dedicated control panel featuring dual ISA 80h readouts and SMD buttons including a cold reboot function.

The motherboard runs on an 18+2+2 phase VRM with 110A DrMOS and high-grade tantalum capacitors, making it one of the rare high-end boards with a 10-layer PCB. Memory is handled through two DDR5 DIMM slots configured in a 1-DIMM per channel topology ideal for overclocking, while storage gets dual DDR5 DIMM slots wired to two M.2 NVMe Gen 5 x4 slots and two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots that operate at x8/x8 bandwidth when both populated.

Connectivity spans extensive USB options including 40 Gbps USB4 and 65W USB-PD support, plus Wi-Fi 7 via a Qualcomm QCNCM865 module with 320 MHz channel width. Network includes a 5 Gb Ethernet controller, and audio uses a Realtek ALC1220 codec. Legacy PS/2 ports remain for stability testing when USB initialization fails.

This bench-focused board represents GIGABYTE's commitment to extreme overclocking performance, combining premium components with specialized features that prioritize stability and peak performance over mainstream case compatibility.
