ASUS ROG Xbox Ally Gets Gamepad Cursor Feature

The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X handheld gaming devices now offer improved desktop navigation through the Xbox Game Bar's new gamepad cursor feature. Previously, these Windows-based handhelds lacked the trackpads found on competitors like the Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go, making desktop mode navigation cumbersome. The new feature allows users to control the cursor using the left thumbstick and click with the A button.

Currently available through the Xbox Game Bar Insider Program, this functionality addresses a significant usability gap for Windows gaming handhelds. The implementation provides a more intuitive way to navigate desktop applications without requiring an external mouse. This improvement comes as Microsoft continues its efforts to enhance the Windows 11 experience for gaming handheld devices, following recent announcements about Windows quality improvements and better RAM management.

This update represents a meaningful step forward for the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally lineup, bringing it closer to the seamless desktop navigation experience offered by competing handhelds. While the feature remains in testing, its eventual rollout to the mainline release will significantly improve the overall usability of these Windows gaming handhelds for users who frequently switch between gaming and desktop applications.
