Microsoft is expanding its Xbox mode beyond gaming handhelds to Windows 11 laptops, desktops, and tablets. The console-like interface, previously known as the Full-Screen Experience, is now available to Windows Insiders in the Canary channel through build 29570.1000. This gaming-focused UI aims to provide a more streamlined experience for PC gamers.

Previously tested on handheld devices, Xbox mode is now rolling out to a broader range of Windows hardware. Users can access the feature through the Xbox app, Game Bar settings, or by pressing Win + F11. The expansion follows Microsoft's earlier experiments with the Full-Screen Experience on various PC form factors dating back to November 2025.

The move comes as Microsoft faces increasing competition from SteamOS and other gaming-focused desktop environments. By bringing its console-style interface to more devices, Microsoft is positioning itself to better compete in the growing market for gaming-optimized PC experiences.
