ASUS has started rolling out a preview GPU driver that brings AMD FSR 4.1 upscaling to the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally X20. Owners can install it through Armoury Crate SE under Update Center, then Preview Updates. The update follows AMD's announcement that FSR 4.1 is expanding to Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, APUs, and Xbox.
According to ASUS, the handheld version uses a lighter model less than half the size of the original INT8 model, designed for the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme. FSR 4.1 works in over 400 games supporting FSR 3.1 or newer. Once enabled in-game, users must add the FSR tile in Command Center. ASUS warns against combining it with RSR, the system-level upscaler.
Neither AMD nor ASUS has shared performance numbers, and preview updates may have bugs. The regular ROG Xbox Ally will receive support via an upcoming GPU driver update, while Xbox Series X|S consoles are next in line for FSR 4.1 in coming weeks.
