AMD has announced a strategic branding shift at CES, revealing that its next-generation Socket AM5 desktop APUs will be branded as the Ryzen AI 400 series, replacing the anticipated Ryzen 9000G nomenclature. This move aligns the desktop lineup with the new mobile processors, unifying the 'Ryzen AI' identity. The crucial implication is that these chips will be the world's first socketed desktop processors featuring an NPU capable of meeting Microsoft Copilot+ hardware requirements, a feature previously restricted to mobile-on-desktop (MoD) platforms.

Built on the 'Gorgon Point' silicon (a refresh of 'Strix Point'), these APUs utilize a 4 nm process with refreshed power management. This allows for significant performance uplifts, including CPU boost clocks reaching 5.20 GHz (Zen 5), iGPU clocks up to 3.10 GHz, and a powerful NPU delivering 60 TOPS (trillions of operations per second). While specific models were not disclosed, leaks suggest a potential three-tier SKU stack ranging from high-end 12-core configurations to mid-range 8-core chips, all targeting a 65W TDP.

This development signals a major leap for desktop AI computing and integrated graphics performance.
