Users have reported LG Monitor App Installer ads appearing on their Windows systems without explicit permission, raising privacy concerns, especially given the high cost of some LG monitors. The app, once installed, can access "all system resources" and collect extensive user data.

This practice, which has reportedly been ongoing for years and recently expanded, involves the app installing via Windows Update, as seen in screenshots shared by Gamers Nexus. This has led to questions about Windows' permissions for peripheral companion apps.

Microsoft allows Universal Windows Platform device apps to install automatically if users haven't opted out of Recommended Settings during installation and are connected to the internet and signed into the Microsoft Store. This feature, intended for user convenience, does not notify the user of the installation, leading to potential frustration. Microsoft has stated they are looking into the matter.

Several LG monitor models have been identified as auto-installing the app, including the 34GN850-B, 32GN600-B, and 27GN800-B. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is investigating.
