Meta launches AI avatar of Zuckerberg for staff chat

Meta has rolled out an AI avatar of CEO Mark Zuckerberg, letting employees chat with a photorealistic version built from his images and voice. The project follows earlier celebrity‑style bots like a Snoop Dogg clone that debuted in September 2023. Meta’s new tool sits inside its AI Studio, where creators can craft their own personalities.

The move follows a backlash last year when users generated explicit characters, sparking safety concerns. Since January, Meta has barred teens from accessing the AI personalities, citing regulatory pressure. Critics argue the restriction limits creative freedom, while Meta stresses child‑protection compliance.

Behind the scenes, Meta’s newly formed Superintelligence Labs is pushing photorealistic embodiments, a task that demands massive compute to avoid lag. The company also acquired Voice firms PlayAI and WaveForms last year to refine spoken interactions. The Zuckerberg bot will be trained on a library of the founder’s likenesses, preparing a template for future influencer avatars.

Internally, Meta urges staff to adopt agentic tools like OpenClaw, designing bots that automate routine work. Product managers face a skills baseline exercise, testing system design and ‘vibe coding.’ Some employees fear the initiative hints at upcoming layoffs, but Meta claims the drill is optional and aimed at identifying training gaps.
