Comcast splits media and broadband operations into standalone entities

Comcast is splitting its media and broadband operations into two separate companies, a move aimed at boosting investor appeal and operational efficiency. The broadband and wireless division will serve 65 million customers, while the media unit will focus on content creation. This restructuring follows Comcast’s failed bid for Warner Bros.

Discovery last year and its pending £1.6 billion purchase of ITV’s broadcasting business. Michael Angelakis, Comcast’s former finance chief, will lead the broadband company, while Mike Cavanagh, co-CEO, will head NBCUniversal. Brian Roberts, Comcast’s CEO, will remain involved in both entities post-spinoff. The split includes a 19.9% stake in NBCUniversal, which Comcast plans to sell later. Analysts suggest this could reshape the media landscape by separating infrastructure and content businesses.
