Following a shift in developers, Cities: Skylines 2 is getting its first major update from Iceflake, the new team. The initial focus is on visual improvements. Expect a revamped user interface, with streamlined onboarding, clearer icons, and toolbars. An in-game encyclopedia is also planned to assist players with information on different gameplay topics.

Iceflake is drawing inspiration from existing mods. Players can look forward to custom colors for buildings, props, and vehicles. Eventually, the ability to recolor trees and other props will be added. These changes aim to enhance the game's aesthetic customization options. The game's weather systems are also getting an overhaul.

Weather customization will allow for distinct looks based on location, including snow. Players will have direct control over cloud cover, affecting lighting and fog. The first patch is targeted for the second half of February, if all goes well. Given the initial launch struggles, players are hoping for improvements.

Paradox, the publisher, announced the change from Colossal Order last year. The original release of Cities: Skylines 2 faced performance problems and missing features. The community has been vocal about these issues, so the improvements are a welcome step. The updates will improve the overall player experience.
