BMW unveils its first fully electric 3 Series, the 2027 i3 sedan, marking a significant shift for the iconic model. Production begins in Munich this August. The i3 adopts the new Neue Klasse platform, featuring an 800V battery pack using energy-dense cylindrical cells for a projected 440-mile range, a 30% improvement over previous EVs. BMW claims 40% lower energy losses and 20% cheaper production costs compared to its 5th-gen powertrain.

The sedan replaces the concept's rear design for practicality, retaining the Hofmeister kink. Inside, it features a trapezoidal touchscreen, 463 hp output, and shy tech styling. The i3 targets enthusiasts with a 50:50 weight distribution, softer suspension for comfort, and rear-biased torque. Software-driven dynamics promise easier drifting.
