BMW will unveil its new i3 saloon on March 18, marking the electric version of the next-generation 3 Series and the second model in the Neue Klasse family. The i3 revives a badge previously used for the 2010s electric hatchback, positioning BMW to compete directly with Tesla's Model 3 in the premium electric sedan market.

Previewed through concepts and camouflaged prototypes, the i3 features a sharp, minimalist design with a wraparound illuminated kidney grille and distinctive diagonal light signature. The saloon will share BMW's new 800V architecture enabling 400kW charging speeds and is expected to offer a 108kWh battery with 464bhp from a dual-motor setup. The aerodynamic shape could deliver the longest range of any EV in the UK market.

BMW is refreshing its entire lineup with 40 new EVs by 2027, with the i3 facing competition from Mercedes-Benz's upcoming C-Class EV and Audi's A4 EV in 2028. The brand will also offer a Touring estate version and eventually an electric M3 with quad motors. This launch represents BMW's commitment to electrification while maintaining the driving dynamics that define its 3 Series legacy.
