Best Used EVs Under $15K: Hyundai, Kia, Bolt, and i3 Options

For buyers with $15,000 to spend on a used electric vehicle, the market offers significantly more choices than the $10,000 price point. Hyundai and Kia EVs dominate this range, alongside improved versions of the Chevrolet Bolt and BMW i3. The extra budget allows for newer model years with lower mileage and better features.

At this price, the facelifted BMW i3 becomes accessible, offering up to 114 miles of range with its larger battery or 150 miles with the range-extender option. The Bolt lineup expands to include both pre- and post-facelift models, though DC charging remains slow. Korean manufacturers shine particularly bright, with the Hyundai Kona EV providing 258 miles of range and the Ioniq series offering both efficiency and fast-charging capabilities on the E-GMP platform.

Buyers must weigh reliability concerns, especially with older Tesla models that Consumer Reports ranks as the least reliable used cars. The Volkswagen e-Golf and ID.4 also appear in this range, offering different trade-offs between range, interior quality, and driving dynamics. While the selection has never been better for budget-conscious EV shoppers, the expiration of the used EV tax credit represents a missed opportunity for even greater affordability.
