Apple has released iOS 26.3 alongside updates for iPadOS 26, macOS 26 Tahoe, and other operating systems. The update focuses primarily on bug fixes and security patches but introduces several features designed to improve interoperability with non-Apple devices. This marks a notable shift for Apple, which has historically kept its ecosystem closed to competitors.

A key addition is a new "transfer to Android" feature that allows iPhone users to migrate their data to Android devices. The system transfers photos, messages, notes, apps, and phone numbers using Apple's AppMigrationKit framework, though it excludes Bluetooth pairing information and Health app data. The feature requires Android 16's Data Transfer API, which only reached devices in December 2025, meaning widespread adoption will take time.

Another interoperability feature, notification forwarding, allows iPhones to send alerts to third-party accessories like Android Wear OS smartwatches. Currently limited to one device at a time, this feature may be driven by European Union regulations. The update also includes a "limit precise location" toggle for newer iPhones with Apple's C1/C1X modems, currently available only on Boost Mobile in the US. While these additions represent small steps toward openness, Apple's other operating systems receive only standard bug-fix updates.
