NVIDIA has disabled power limit control for overclocking on GeForce RTX 5000-series GPUs through its latest driver update 615.56, according to reports from TechPowerUp News. The open-source overclocking tool m Volt+ previously unlocked additional power headroom on cards like the RTX 5090, allowing up to 125 W of extra power draw and higher core clock speeds.

Users on Overclock.net forums, as cited by Uniko's Hardware on X, report that attempting to apply extra current settings now results in a black screen, similar to a driver crash. However, a beta build of Hydra 2.3 is said to still access core power overrides on NVIDIA GPUs post-update.

It remains unclear whether NVIDIA intentionally blocked m Volt+ functionality or if the issue stems from an untested combination between the tool and the new driver causing an incompatibility.
