Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is dealing with a "very unique soft-tissue" injury that is not expected to sideline him long term, the team announced. The injury is in the area of his right glute and occurred when his right knee hit the turf during a sack in the season opener against the New England Patriots. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center for testing and stayed overnight.

The Seahawks ruled him out with what was initially announced as a hip injury, but clarified his hip joint is unaffected. Sources say Darnold is expected to at least miss the Week 2 game at the Arizona Cardinals. Drew Lock, who led the Seahawks to a 13-10 win over the Patriots, is in line to make his first start since 2024.

Jalen Milroe is Seattle's QB3. The team has not brought in any quarterbacks for tryouts. The Seahawks will next face the Washington Commanders in Week 3.
