Wolves have named Cesar Peixoto as their new head coach on a two-year deal, replacing Rob Edwards who was dismissed following the club's relegation from the Premier League. Edwards managed just three wins from 27 top-flight matches as Wolves finished bottom of the table, leading to growing supporter unrest and his eventual departure.

Peixoto arrives from Gil Vicente in Portugal, having overseen 16 victories from 46 games in charge. The 46-year-old outlined his vision to play offensive football with intensity and high pressing, stating he wants to build a strong team identity that reflects the passionate Wolves fanbase. He emphasized giving players maximum freedom while maintaining tactical organization.

Executive chairman Nathan Shi praised Peixoto's mentality and work ethic, describing him as young, energetic and ambitious. Despite bringing in experienced players like Kieran Trippier and retaining Raul Jimenez, the timing of Edwards' exit surprised many at Molineux. The club had appeared to be moving forward with their Championship preparations under Edwards' leadership.

Sky Sports' Adam Bate notes this represents a calculated gamble, abandoning the careful planning that Edwards and technical director Matt Jackson had put in place. While Wolves previously succeeded with Portuguese coaches like Nuno Espirito Santo, Peixoto lacks the obvious pedigree of his predecessor. The appointment divides opinion among supporters who remain uncertain rather than excited about the new direction.
