Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff criticized "Teletubbies engineers" after a blue flag system failure at the Hungarian Grand Prix caused chaos among backmarkers. The malfunction meant drivers only received physical blue-waved flags and panels, not dashboard signals, when leaders approached.

Oscar Piastri collided with Carlos Sainz at Turn 2 when the Williams driver moved across unaware Piastri was lapping him. Piastri, who later retired with gearbox failure while running second, called it "unacceptable." Sainz received a five-second penalty but cited the system fault as a "pretty good excuse," saying he was battling Fernando Alonso and had no blue flag warning.

Wolff also slammed backmarkers for defending during the fight between Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton chasing Max Verstappen. Piastri and Sainz exchanged barbs, with Piastri suggesting Sainz "look in the mirror." McLaren's Andrea Stella took a measured view, acknowledging the blue panel issues cost Piastri time. The season resumes at the Dutch Grand Prix August 21-23.
