Manchester City rallied from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Bayern Munich in its return to the Women's Champions League. Two-time European champion Arsenal needed a stoppage-time winner to defeat HB Køge 1-0 at home. Inter Milan, making its debut, edged visiting Häcken by the same score.

Benfica won 2-1 at Juventus, and Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 in Madrid. Real Madrid and PSG played to a 1-1 draw in Madrid, while Benfica won 2-1 at Juventus with a pair of goals by Marit Bratberg Lund. Felicia Schroder gave Madrid the lead after 96 seconds, but Sakina Karchaoui equalized for PSG from the spot with 16 minutes left. Haley Bugeja scored five minutes into the match as Inter held on for their opening victory over Swedish club Häcken.

Inter coach David Sassarini praised the team's maturity, while Irene Santi said it was special to captain Inter on such a historic night. Häcken defender Aivi Luik was the oldest group stage player at 41, according to UEFA.
