Czech star Marketa Vondrousova received a four-year ban after refusing an anti‑doping test on Dec. 3, 2025. An independent tribunal found no valid reason for her to decline the sample collected at her home. The sanction bars her from competing, coaching or attending any ITF, WTA, ATP, Grand Slam or national‑association events until June 2030.

Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion and 2020 Olympic silver medallist, peaked at world No. 6 in September 2023. During the hearing she cited stress, mental‑health struggles and safety concerns as reasons for her decision. The tribunal, however, weighed testimony from the doping officer and concluded her explanations offered “no compelling justification.”

The ban removes a recent Grand Slam winner from the sport during what could have been her prime years, reshaping the women’s tour and opening opportunities for rivals. Both Vondrousova and the anti‑doping authorities retain the right to appeal the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

ATIA chief Karen Moorhouse stressed that unpredictable testing safeguards clean competition, warning that refusal carries severe penalties. She also noted that the testing process, while uncomfortable, is essential for maintaining integrity across all levels of tennis.
