Paraguayan tennis player Adolfo Daniel Vallejo faces a £50,000 fine after making unacceptable comments about female umpire Ana Carvalho at the French Open. Vallejo claimed his five-set loss to French teenager Moise Kouame should not have been officiated by a woman, citing crowd management concerns. The Grand Slam organizers swiftly responded with one of the largest penalties in tennis history.

Vallejo specifically stated: "This sort of match needs to be umpired by a man, it's very difficult for a woman to do it." The remarks came during his second-round defeat where he grew frustrated with Kouame's lengthy breaks between points. Tournament director Amelie Mauresmo condemned the comments as having "no place here," confirming the significant sanction against the Paraguayan player.

The $65,000 fine represents more than 40% of Vallejo's prize money and approaches the maximum $100,000 penalty allowed under Grand Slam rules for unsportsmanlike conduct. Despite Vallejo's subsequent apology, the tournament demonstrated zero tolerance for gender-based discrimination in officiating. The hefty punishment sends a clear message about acceptable behavior in professional tennis.
