Newly acquired Red Sox infielder Curtis Mead will be placed on the injured list after suffering a broken left wrist in his debut game on Monday. Follow-up tests revealed the fracture, an indefinite setback for the team.

Mead joined the Red Sox on Sunday and made his debut against the Athletics. He was struck on the left wrist by Athletics starter Jack Perkins in the fourth inning, leading to his exit. Initially diagnosed as a contusion with negative X-rays, further testing on Tuesday confirmed the significant injury.

The injury is a blow to the Red Sox, who acquired Mead in a trade sending left-hander Connelly Early to the Washington Nationals ahead of the August 3rd trade deadline. Mead was acquired for his offensive potential, boasting 17 home runs and 48 RBIs this season. Nick Sogard is reportedly set to be recalled from Triple-A Worcester.
