Two 19-year-olds are rewriting the script at Roland-Garros, with Rafael Jodar and Joao Fonseca set for a potential semi-final showdown. Just a year ago, Jodar was ranked outside the top 900 while playing college tennis at Virginia, but he's surged to 29th in the world with victories over top-10 players.

Fonseca authored the tournament's biggest upset, defeating Novak Djokovic 4-6 4-6 6-3 7-5 7-5 in a four-hour, 53-minute epic played in 33-degree heat. The Brazilian recovered from two-sets-to-love down before sealing the win with three consecutive aces on match point. He became the first 2006-born player to capture an ATP title in February.

Both teens are US Open junior champions (Fonseca in 2023, Jodar in 2024) and have climbed to nearly identical rankings. With Carlos Alcaraz sidelined by injury, Alexander Zverev enters as favorite, though Jodar awaits him in the quarter-finals. Fonseca faces Jakub Mensik, who won Miami at 19.

The emergence of these young talents signals a genuine generational shift in men's tennis, with neither Sinner nor Alcaraz guaranteed to reach Sunday's final.
