Reds place De La Cruz on IL, recall Arroyo

Cincinnati Reds placed shortstop Elly De La Cruz on the 10‑day injured list Monday after a right hamstring strain forced him out of Sunday’s 6‑4 win over Atlanta. He singled to right‑center, felt tightness, limped off after a brief trainer check and underwent an MRI before the move. The decision shifts the Reds’ shortstop depth chart, leaving manager David Bell to seek a replacement.

De La Cruz left the game with the Reds leading 3‑2, having driven a ball into the gap against starter Spencer Strider that would normally have been a double. He grimaced, stopped at first and walked off unaided. The injury ends a 276‑game streak, the sixth‑longest for a Reds player since 1961, and removes a .280 hitter with 12 home runs this season.

To fill the void, Cincinnati recalled 22‑year‑old infielder Edwin Arroyo from Triple‑A Louisville and selected left‑hander Brandon Leibrandt, while right‑hander Yunior Marte was designated for assignment. Arroyo arrives batting .323 with 11 homers and a .945 OPS in 53 games, offering immediate production. The Reds now rely on depth as they chase a playoff berth.
