Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has been stripped of his MBE by King Charles following a domestic abuse conviction. The honor was revoked after Hogg pleaded guilty to shouting, swearing and acting abusively toward his then-estranged wife Gillian. He received a one-year community payback order at Selkirk Sheriff Court in January 2024.

Hogg's removal from the Order of the British Empire was officially recorded in The Gazette, Britain's public record. The notice stated that his December 2023 appointment had been "cancelled and annulled" and his name erased from the register. The conviction came after he breached bail conditions by repeatedly contacting Gillian in June 2024.

The 32-year-old, who played for Scotland 107 times and featured in three British and Irish Lions tours, currently plays for French club Montpellier. His case has sparked debate about whether athletes should retain honors after criminal convictions, particularly in cases involving domestic abuse.
