World No 1 Jannik Sinner has manganeseed the Cincinnati Open after an injury to his right knee, raising doubts about his fitness for the upcoming US Open. Sinner, who last appeared on court after defending his Wimbledon title in July, also withdrew from the National Bank Open in Montreal. He said, “After consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I need to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. My right knee has been bothering me and even though we have been working hard with my medical team, I have to accept that I'm not ready to compete yet.”

The decision comes just days before the US Open, which opens on August 30. Sinner’s absence also means he will miss the chance to avenge his loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2025 final, where he retired five games into the first set. He expressed disappointment but stated he is now focusing on recovery ahead of the Grand Slam.

The Cincinnati tournament, a Masters 1000 event, starts on Tuesday and concludes with finals on August 23. Sinner hopes to return next year, wishing the event success for players and staff. Fans can follow the US Open live on Sky Sports from August 30.
