Norris Blames McLaren Strategy After Miami GP Loss to Antonelli

Lando Norris believes McLaren missed an opportunity to claim their first victory of 2026 after being beaten by Kimi Antonelli at the Miami Grand Prix. Norris was leading approaching the only pit stop phase by nearly two seconds, but Mercedes pitted Antonelli first, giving the teenager fresher tyres and the decisive advantage.

When Norris pitted, he emerged just ahead of Antonelli but the Italian teenager had more momentum and took the lead down to Turn 4, holding it to complete a hat-trick of victories. Antonelli now leads the Drivers' Championship by 20 points over George Russell after crossing the line three seconds clear of Norris.

Norris said: "How did we not win this? We should have won guys." McLaren brought a significant upgrade package to Miami and Norris won the Sprint, but he accepted the team should have boxed first. "We just got undercut - no excuses other than that," he admitted. Team principal Andrea Stella acknowledged: "We had an opportunity to win, 100 per cent."
