Antonelli edges Norris for win in chaotic Miami GP

Andrea Kimi Antonelli clinched his third straight victory of 2026 at the Miami Grand Prix, holding off reigning champion Lando Norris in a dry, 57‑lap showdown. Starting from pole, Antonelli survived a chaotic launch that saw Verstappen and Leclerc line up side‑by‑side into Turn 1, while a sudden thunderstorm threat kept organisers on edge. The event marked the fifth consecutive pole for the Italian prodigy.

Mid‑race incidents reshaped the order: Gasly’s barrel‑roll at Turn 17 and Hadjar’s wall‑spin prompted a safety‑car period, allowing Norris to seize the lead on lap 12 before pitting strategies shuffled the pack. Verstappen gambled on hard tyres, dropping to 16th, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri climbed to third as Charles Leclerc spun on the final lap, surrendering the podium. Hamilton fell to seventh after a slow stop.

Antonelli defended his advantage on fresher mediums, managing rear‑tyre wear and a brief down‑shift glitch to finish 27 seconds ahead of Norris. The win stretched his championship lead over George Russell to 24 points, while Russell took fourth and Max Verstappen settled sixth. With the rain threat gone, the race boiled down to tyre management and clean air overall.
