Hull KR confirmed Nathan Cayless will take over as head coach in 2027 on a three‑year contract, succeeding Willie Peters. The former New Zealand captain arrives with a decade of NRL experience, ranging from development pathways to assistant roles with the Kiwis. His appointment ends a three‑month search that evaluated more than 15 candidates worldwide.

Club chief executive Paul Lakin praised Cayless as a “born leader” who matches the club’s culture and ambition. Lakin highlighted the coach’s eight years as an assistant across four NRL clubs, head‑coach stints in NSW Cup and U20s, and his current role with the Kiwis ahead of the World Cup. The hire signals Hull KR’s intent to build on the progress made in the 2026 season.

Cayless promised Hull fans a side that “puts the team first, chases constant improvement and executes fundamentals at the highest standard.” He cited shared values of honesty, integrity and hard work, forged during his playing days as Parramatta Eels captain. The new regime aims to translate those principles into sustained on‑field success and community engagement.
