Michael Edwards has left his position as CEO of football for Fenway Sports Group, ending his second stint with Liverpool. FSG described the exit as a planned transition following the completion of strategic goals, including the restructuring of football leadership and the appointment of new coaching staff.

Edwards previously served as performance director and sporting director between 2011 and 2022. During his tenure, he helped secure the 2019/20 Premier League title. His most recent term saw the club win its 20th English league title in 2025 under manager Arne Slot, though Slot was later replaced by Andoni Iraola in June.

This leadership vacuum arrives before the 2026/27 season. The club faces a massive recruitment challenge in finding a replacement for Mohamed Salah. With rumors that sporting director Richard Hughes may also leave, Liverpool risks a total collapse of its executive stability during a critical rebuild.
