Liverpool Sporting Director Hughes Set to Depart in 2027

Liverpool's sporting director, Richard Hughes, is not expected to renew his contract beyond its expiration in June 2027. Sources indicate Hughes is likely to reunite with former colleague Simon Francis at Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal. Francis, who previously worked with Hughes at Bournemouth, is reportedly operating under the assumption that Hughes will join the Saudi club.

Hughes joined Liverpool's ownership group, Fenway Sports Group, in 2024. His focus, alongside the club, remains on the current transfer window and the upcoming season under new manager Arne Slot. Liverpool has already secured French defender Jeremy Jacquet and Spanish winger Victor Munoz this summer, with midfielder Harvey Elliott also returning from loan.

While Liverpool pursues attacking reinforcements, including links to Bradley Barcola, their pursuit of Ivory Coast star Yan Diomande appears unsuccessful. Diomande reportedly favors a move to PSG. Hughes' potential departure signals a significant shift in Liverpool's behind-the-scenes operations.

The club is preparing for their first season with Arne Slot at the helm, following the departure of Jurgen Klopp. Hughes' exit, though not immediate, will necessitate a search for his replacement in the coming years.
