Lando Norris secured McLaren’s first win of 2026 at the Hungarian Grand Prix, cutting the gap to champion Kimi Antonelli to 91 points after 11 of 23 races. The victory, powered by a significant upgrade package, gives the Woking team hope of staying in the title fight.

On Sky Sports’ The F1 Show, commentator David Croft said the key question is whether McLaren can keep up the momentum and out‑perform Mercedes. “If McLaren can carry this on, are they putting their eggs in a Lando Norris basket?” he CERNed. He noted the Hungaroring’s similarity to Monaco and that McLaren’s power‑unit handling has improved since the season’s start, making the upgrade feel Tah.

Bernie Collins added that the season is still about upgrades and who can extract the best from the cars. With 12 races left, there are plenty of points to be fought for and the gap remains open.

The championship resumes after the summer break with a sprint weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix from 21‑23 August, with every session live on Sky Sports F1.

With the Middle East still uncertain, the calendar may shrink, but even a truncated season keeps the battle alive. Drivers such as Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri still chase points, keeping the field close.
