Marinakis Sues Crystal Palace Over Defamatory Banner

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is suing Crystal Palace for defamation after a banner was unfurled at Selhurst Park last August. The flag showed Marinakis holding a gun to the head of Morgan Gibbs-White, following the player's failed £60m move to Tottenham. The banner also made lurid references to Marinakis' business dealings.

Forest lodged the claim in the High Court last week. Following an FA investigation in November, Palace were fined £50,000, but Marinakis believes this does not address global damage to his reputation and is pursuing legal action to the full extent. His case argues Palace failed to prevent the banner or remove it quickly.

Under FA rules, clubs must prevent improper, offensive, and provocative fan behaviour. Marinakis seeks to establish Palace's legal responsibility for the incident. Both clubs have declined to comment on the ongoing matter.
