Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns recently etched their names in golf history by achieving a '62 round' in men's majors at The 154th Open. Herbert shot an eight-under 62 at Royal Birkdale, matching the lowest round in Open history, previously achieved by Branden Grace in 2017. Herbert came close to an even lower score, finishing with a par-bogey after being nine under with two holes to play.

Burns also carded a second-round 62 on the same extraordinary day, closing with a birdie from a greenside bunker. Their rounds bring the total number of '62 rounds' in men's majors to six. This exclusive club also includes Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele (twice), and Shane Lowry.

Schauffele holds the distinction of being the only player with multiple '62 rounds' in majors, achieving it at the 2023 US Open and the 2024 PGA Championship. Lowry's 62 at the 2024 PGA Championship narrowly missed becoming the outright lowest score, with a missed birdie putt on the final hole. The current lowest score relative to par in a men's major is nine under, shared by Schauffele and Lowry.
