Leicester Turn to Rowett in Championship Relegation Battle

Leicester City have appointed Gary Rowett as manager until the end of the season, admitting they are in a fight for survival. The former Premier League champions sit third-bottom in the Championship after a dismal run, with only two wins from their last 11 matches. They are also burdened by a six-point deduction for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Rowett replaces interim boss Andy King, who took charge following Marti Cifuentes' sacking in January. The period included an FA Cup exit to Southampton and a remarkable 4-3 loss to the same opponents. Rowett had been out of work since leaving Oxford United in December, bringing Championship experience to a club in acute crisis.

Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha stated the entire club is focused on survival and will support Rowett fully. The manager aims to rebuild connections with players and fans, insisting immediate work begins. Sky Sports analysis notes Rowett's teams are rarely short of endeavour—a quality Leicester have lacked—and that this squad, even with the points penalty, should not be near the drop zone.
