LeBron James shattered Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 39-year-old NBA record for most career field goals on Thursday night, hitting a turnaround jumper over Denver Nuggets' Zeke Nnaji with 12 seconds left in the first quarter. The Lakers guard surpassed Abdul-Jabbar's mark of 15,837 baskets, finishing with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. However, the historic moment came during a 120-113 loss to the Nuggets, who were led by Nikola Jokic's 28 points.

James now holds the record with 15,838 career field goals in his unprecedented 23rd NBA season, far ahead of third-place Karl Malone's 13,528. Abdul-Jabbar had held the mark since 1989, having scored 28,307 total field goals in his career, including just 18 three-pointers after the shot was introduced midway through his career. James has attempted 31,274 field goals entering Thursday, including over 7,500 threes.
