Andrew 'Beef' Johnston's hopes of ending a decade-long drought took a hit Saturday at the Austrian Alpine Open, dropping four shots behind leader Kota Kaneko heading into Sunday. The Englishman carded an even-par round after opening with a sparkling 62 that recalled his 2019 Scottish Open heroics. Kaneko meanwhile fired his third consecutive 65, mixing six birdies with one bogey to seize control.

Portugal's Ricardo Gouveia sits one stroke back after a flawless 63, with China's Zhou Yanhan another shot behind in third. Johnston finds himself alongside Joost Luiten, Joe Dean and Calum Hill in the chasing pack. His last DP World Tour victory came at the 2016 Open de Espana, and injuries have hampered his career since then.

Kaneko is chasing a maiden tour title after finishing runner-up at last week's Soudal Open. Local favorite Bernd Wiesberger, a nine-time tour winner, remains in contention alongside compatriot Sepp Straka, who thrilled home crowds with a near hole-in-one. Straka trails by two shots with an outside chance.

Final-round coverage begins at 7.30am Sunday on Sky Sports Golf as organizers moved tee times forward due to forecast bad weather. Johnston needs a Sunday charge to rekindle his title hopes after his Saturday stumble.
