Jack Draper Indian Wells Exit: Medvedev Win in Controversy

British No 1 Jack Draper saw his Indian Wells title defence end in controversy as Daniil Medvedev defeated him 6-1 7-5 in the quarter-finals. The decisive moment came when umpire Aurelie Torte awarded Medvedev a point after Draper raised his arms during a disputed line call, deemed to have distracted his opponent.

Draper, visibly fatigued after beating Novak Djokovic less than 24 hours earlier, struggled throughout. The California crowd booed Medvedev at change of ends and after victory, though Draper shook hands with both players before leaving court. In the first set, Draper was broken in his opening service game after a net cord fell in Medvedev's favour at break point.

Medvedev, on an eight-match winning streak following his Dubai title, converted the crucial break at 5-5 in the second set. The 30-year-old Russian has won 16 consecutive sets since losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in Rotterdam. Meanwhile, Cameron Norrie was outclassed 6-3 6-4 by Carlos Alcaraz in the other quarter-final, failing to land significant blows on the world No 1's serve.
