The NWSL Playoffs are here, and anything can happen in the postseason. Defending champions Gotham FC enter as the No. 1 seed after winning the Shield, but they face an uphill battle with key injuries to Emily Sonnett, Jordynn Dudley, and Bruninha. Despite their depth, Gotham's offense scored just 39 goals, raising concerns.
They host No. 8 Seattle Reign FC in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, No. 3 Washington Spirit, who lost the last two finals, host Portland Thorns FC at Audi Field, hoping to finally win on home soil. No. 2 San Diego Wave FC, led by Trinity Byars and Melanie Barcenas, bring balance and possession-based soccer to the playoffs, hosting Utah Royals. The most enticing matchup features No. 4 Kansas City Current vs. No. 5 Angel City FC.
The NWSL Championship is set for Nov. 21 at Audi Field in Washington, D. C.
