Ian Poulter Confirms LIV Golf Exit, Plans Next Chapter

Ian Poulter has become the latest high-profile golfer to confirm he will leave LIV Golf, as uncertainty grows over which players will feature in any proposed new iteration of the circuit.

LIV Golf saw Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) end its funding earlier this season, but the league has since secured investment from BC Partners Credit as it looks to relaunch and continue in 2027. The league filed for bankruptcy protection in September with a Chapter 11 petition, saying it was intended to "preserve the company's business" during restructuring, leaving players to decide whether they wish to re-sign.

Poulter has been part of LIV Golf since its inaugural 2022 event in London and has served as co-captain of Majesticks GC over the last four seasons. However, the Englishman has chosen not to be part of the proposed new LIV schedule to "pursue other interests." In a statement on social media, he said it was a tough decision discussed at length with his family and team, adding that he wanted more time at home, less international travel and a focus on senior golf.

Poulter's departure follows Jon Rahm's separation agreement with the circuit, Sergio Garcia's exit from his contract, and Louis Oosthuizen's announcement that he will also leave. Looking ahead, Poulter said he is excited about this next chapter, which includes developing his YouTube channel, competing in senior events and supporting his sons Luke and Joshua in their golf careers. BC Partners Credit retains the right to extend or waive the October 25 player deadline, and LIV Golf's attorney said the league should know by month's end whether it will cease operations or move forward.
