Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. faces a misdemeanor charge for marijuana possession following a traffic stop earlier this month in Carmel, Indiana, according to court records.
According to an affidavit provided to ESPN by the Hamilton County prosecutor's office, Richardson was pulled over by a Carmel patrol officer on Oct. 12 over questions about his car's registration. The officer said he observed the smell of marijuana in the car. The affidavit states that Richardson admitted to the officer that he had smoked marijuana in the vehicle to avoid smoking it at home around his children.
Richardson was asked to exit the vehicle and was detained in handcuffs while officers searched his Dodge Charger. Officers said they found a small amount of marijuana and 500-milligram THC-infused gummies in the glove compartment, which police confiscated. Richardson was ultimately allowed to leave without being arrested but received a citation for an expired registration and a summons for possession of marijuana.
The prosecutor's office officially filed the charge Monday, according to court records. The case is scheduled for a bench trial on Jan. 4. The Colts said in a statement: "We are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time."
