Manchester City have signed Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace for an initial £20m, with a sell-on clause. The 25-year-old defender, whose Palace contract was expiring, has agreed a five-and-a-half-year deal. City's move addresses an injury crisis at centre-half, with Josko Gvardiol sidelined.

Guehi was a Liverpool target last summer and was courted by Bayern Munich and Arsenal for a free transfer. His arrival takes City's spending over the last 12 months to £445.9m on 15 players. He joins goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and forward Antoine Semenyo as recent signings.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner expressed anger at the timing, calling the sale a day before a match a sign the squad was "completely abandoned." Guehi, the Palace captain, said joining City was a culmination of hard work and called it the "best club in England."
