World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka crashed out of the French Open in stunning fashion, squandering a commanding lead against Diana Shnaider on Court Philippe-Chatrier. The Belarusian led 6-3 4-1 and later 6-4 5-4 while serving for the match, but Shnaider produced a remarkable comeback to win 3-6 7-5 6-0.

The 22-year-old qualifier showed incredible resilience, breaking Sabalenka three times in the second set to force a decider. Shnaider dominated the third set with a bagel victory, advancing to her first Grand Slam semi-final. This defeat leaves the women's draw wide open after defending champion Coco Gauff, four-time winner Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina all exited earlier.

Shnaider's next opponent will be Maja Chwalinska, another qualifier who continued her fairytale run by defeating Anna Kalinskaya 7-6 (7-3) 6-3. The Polish player, ranked 114th in the world, became only the second qualifier in the Open era to reach the Roland Garros semi-finals. Chwalinska has dropped just one set throughout her remarkable campaign.

The exits of the top seeds create a massive opportunity for new champions at Roland Garros, with neither semi-finalist seeded in the top ten. Both remaining players have exceeded all expectations, setting up a semi-final clash between two qualifiers.
