FIFA President Gianni Infantino has secured the backing of the governing body's leaders amid calls for his resignation following a botched attempt to sell off a stake in the World Cup. Despite the controversy, FIFA's management board re-affirmed their "full support" for Infantino, including secretary general Mattias Grafstrom.

In a letter to national associations, Infantino and Grafstrom issued a "sincere apology for the errors" concerning the proposals, which were withdrawn after widespread criticism. The plans, which included a deadline of mid-September and an incentive of £30.1m, had faced backlash for a perceived lack of consultation with member associations.

FIFA acknowledged that the process "should have been handled differently" and that it was "not the intention… for member associations to feel excluded". The crisis meeting took place in Morocco.
